Winnipeg Jets first game

I watched most of the Winnipeg Jets first game of the season.  Nik Antropov scored the first goal for them in the 3rd period and gave a glimmer of hope that was shut down shortly after by Montreal.  The Canadiens had control of the game, behind the great goaltending of Carey Price.  Hopefully the Jets goaltending comes around and saves a few games for them.  It may be a long season, but I am looking forward to watching the team progress over the next few years.  GO JETS!

Thanksgiving Sunday

Today I am thankful for :
my family!, my friends! and my church!
God has truly blessed me.
I am most thankful that God loves and cares for each of us.

Roughriders make coaching changes

Ken Miller is going to take over as head coach and maybe even offensive coordinator after the team has fired Greg Marshall and Doug Berry.  This team will look a lot different for the Labour Day game.  Maybe some more changes on the way before then?  Can Ken Miller restore the team chemistry and winning attitude that they have had the last few years?  It would sure be great to see them come out with their first home win against Winnipeg.

Roughriders trade DE Mullinder

Some changes have been needed and the offense does need some help.  I don't think Dallas Baker will be the entire answer, but is a step in the right direction.  After trading Tad Kornegay the Roughriders responded with a win over Montreal, hopefully this trade will motivate the team to get their first home win this year against Calgary.

Point/Counterpoint: Can Montreal threepeat?

Montreal does have a very strong team.  With Calvillo at QB and solid receivers in Jamel Richardson and S J Green they will definitely be a contender (if not the favorite) when the playoffs come around, but winning three Grey Cups in a row is very difficult.  I expect another team to take the title this year.  I would like to see Montreal lose their first game of the year this week to Saskatchewan and then watch the wheels slowly fall off of Montreal's running game.

Saskatchewan Roughriders 0-3

The Roughriders need to make some changes.  I was more concerned about the defence until this game and now have concerns on offence as well.  The whole team needs to take a good look at what is happening and figure out how to turn things around.  A win in Montreal would help Rider fans to forget the slow start.  I am really reaching for a positive from this game, but it was nice to see that Johnson can kick a 50 yard field goal.

Proverbs 6:16 - 19

Proverbs 6:16-19
New International Version (NIV)

16 There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

We are going through a sermon series called 6+1 at Dalmeny Bible Church that is based on these scriptures.

Saskatchewan returns punt!

Wins and loses don't mean a lot in the pre-season, but it was nice to see Saskatchewan return a punt for a touchdown. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. An electrifying punt return for a touchdown from Saskatchewan's Hugh Charles was the game's biggest moment.

Vancouver Canucks sympathized with the Canadian Postal Strike and decided not to deliver yesterday.

Chronicles of Narnia

Just watched The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe with my family. We are working at reading through the books and tonight watched the movie. It is one of my favourites.

7 days of mediation, no results yet.

The mediation process has not produced a deal for Saskatchewan teachers yet. I am looking forward to seeing the report of the special mediator that should be coming out around June 30. Hopefully there will be a deal before September.

Opposition support

It is nice to see the parties work together to get something done. The rest of the Conservative crime agenda will not be as easy, but should unfold nicely in the fall.

Winnipeg Jets Sold Out!

The support in Winnipeg for the new hockey team has been quite impressive! After being an Islanders fan since 1980, I am going to switch to a team closer to home. This seems like a good time to cheer for a new team. Winnipeg (hopefully the Jets) will be my new team.

Vancouver Canucks Win in OT

The Vancouver Canucks have won both of their home games to take a 2-0 series lead. They now head to Boston for game 3. This was the first NHL game in a long time that I watched from beginning to end. This game was ended very quickly in overtime and should give them some good momentum toward the Stanley Cup.

Nemeiben Lake Canoe Bible Camp

I had a good time getting out of town for the weekend. Even though I am not much of a fisherman, I went on a fishing trip to Nemeiben Lake Canoe and Bible Camp. It was a little bit chilly, so I mostly stayed in doors and did not even try to catch any fish. I left the fish catching up to the hard core fisherman.

Back to school

The 2 day teachers strike will end today and the kids are back to school tomorrow. I hope there are not very many more days of job action and that everything gets settled soon. The teachers union is not winning my support by striking. The teachers going on strike costs me extra money for day care. I am sure many people would like to make the same money as a teacher and have summers off.

Prayer ; Does it make any difference?

I am reading this book by Philip Yancy. It has been very good and I highly recommend it.

A couple of things about prayer, first prayer should change us to the point where we accept God's sovereign will for our lives and second prayer should motivate us as God works through His creation including the actions of His people. God works in mysterious ways and has left His Holy Spirit to guide our prayers and draw us into communion with His Son.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and
forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
